Cebu International Furniture & Furnishings Exhibition (bilingual version) |
|||
■Cebu X 2005 generally was a victory for the Cebu X Organizers, Exhibitors and Sponsors. The outcome of the Cebu X 2005 was positive despite the security problem that plagued the country towards the start of the show. An unfortunate incident that could have badly affected the event this year but didn’t. As the premier event in the Philippine furniture circuit, the Cebu International Furniture and Furnishings Exhibition (Cebu X) confirmed its position as the perfect venue for the Philippine furniture and furnishings manufacturers to grab the international market. The Cebu X over-all presentation was design excellence, good quality, ingenuity, and passion in one very attractive package. 129 participating companies that exhausted their efforts in coming up with recent designs adhering to international trends, while not overlooking their booth presentation are well deserving of applause. Cebu X 2005 also introduced the Design Hot Spot, which housed ten companies who have made a name in the Philippine furniture and furnishings industry as leaders in avant-garde, and truly spectacular designs. |

| The welcoming sight to trade exhibitors at the show venue, the Special
Setting greeted and wowed visitors as usual, as it gave tribute to esteemed
companies’ award-winning creations and their recent designs equally worthy
of high estimation. Raw materials that play a great part in each furniture
and furnishing formed were also showcased in the setting. The four-day run of Cebu X 2005 generated a 4% increase in sales from the 2004 show at US$ 27.4 Million with the Middle East still with the largest purchase accounting for 32% of the total sales. Same as the previous show, North America and Europe came in 2nd and 3rd place at 22% and 17% respectively. Asia ranked 4th at 9%, South America and Africa follow with 5% each. In terms of country performance, the US, which is the Philippine’s largest export market for furniture still registered the highest booking at 19% or US$ 5.16 Million. Saudi Arabia consistently follows the US at US$ 4.8 Million or 18%. Ranking in third is the United Arab Emirates (UAE) at 10%. At 4th is Spain that rose from 6th place last year. Buyers’ count is up by 19%, 1627 over last year’s 1363. A total of 68 countries were represented. Wholesalers make up 34% of the total number of buyers. Buying agents came in 2nd at 22% and retailers 4th at 20%. Designers and architects comprise 10%, followed by manufactures at 7%. As the usual, Philippine buying agents representing foreign buyers account for the biggest figure at 28%, but as with common practice they are not categorized as representative of any one country given the fact that they represent several nations. In buyer attendance, the US still tops at 16%, followed albeit not closely by China / Hong Kong at 5%. Spain ranking 3rd follows closely at 4.8%, Saudi Arabia 4th at 3.7%, France 5th at 3.6%, Japan moved down the ranks from 4th last year to just 6th now at 3.4%, Australia 7th at 2.8%, Italy 8th at 2.1%, Taiwan and Germany tied at 9th place with 2% each and the United Arab Emirates from 7th last year to 10th now at 1.8%. Excitement of the Cebu X is slowly receding as the show has concluded, though the exhibitors’ share of the anticipation is still at its ultimate high as participants hope for a year that would rival that of last years. The emergence of new and more serious buyers is an indicator of a positive year for the furniture and furnishings export industry. Cebu X is organized annually by the Cebu Furniture Industries Foundation, Inc. (CFIF), the primary support organization and professional business partner of the Philippine furniture export industry in the last 30 years. It is composed of 182 furniture and furnishings manufacturing and exporting firms, and subcontractors. Cebu X will again open its doors to the world on February 26 ?
